THE RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.

• TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I have not the pleasure of knowing Mr Ellis personally, nor did I know there was a person of that name at Kihikihi until his letter appeared in your paper re railway time-table, and I should not have troubled you with this had " Deltonian" not made such rabid remarks about those who are opposed to altering the present time-table. The rabies on this subject appear to have had its origin at Ngaruawahia. " Deltonian" certainly rake* up a few far-fetched reasons, such as going to Auckland to meet a friend, to consult a doctor, or sign a deed. As to the latter, that may be done without going to Auckland — at least my own experience tells me so. As to us up-country settlers being at the expense of going to meet a friend, or consult a doctor at Auckland, they are just the one out of a thousand reasons for our going to Auckland, and not the solid business matters attendant upon our daily and weekly work upon which our living depends. We cannot afford to iun down to Auckland to get a tooth drawn, or shake hands with a friend and bid htm good-bye. That won't pay, and we are not such country bumpkins as to believe " Deltonian's" arguments. Tbey are rather triangular for our idea*, and if the celebrated two hours are to be a boon to hundreds, I would say let the time-table remain as it is, and it will be * far greater boon to thousands.— l am, &d, J. Newland. Ngaroto, 28th August, 1884.
