WELLINGTON, Tuesday.
It has been decided to form a Tattersell's Club here. Already members have been enrolled. Colonel Leckie died last night from liver complaint. His death was accelerated by the rough shock he received by fire breaking out on his premises borne time ago. He was 60 years of age, and was a colonel in the 39th Regiment, on ' full pay. He served through a portion of the Crimean war, being present at the storming of Sebastopol, in which he took an active part. He also served in Cauada and \ arious parts of India, and was an intimate friend of "Chinese" Gordon. He leaves a wife and grown-up family. Wednesday. The Telegraph Department notifies that telegtams for Foo Chow can only be sent at the sender's risk, in consequence of the war now pending. A football match was played this afternoon between the pupils of Christ College, Christchurch, and the Wellington College. It was pouring rain all the afternoon and theground was in very bad condition. After a most exciting game it lesulted in a draw, neither side scoring. The visitors are iiuited to dinner at the College to-night. The team return home on Friday. A preliminary enquiry into the circumstances connected with the steamer Tucker touching the rocks when nearing the harbour on Monday was held to-day. The evidence elicited no new facts, and it has been sent to the Marine Department. Mr W. Hutchison, ex-M.H.R., left for Dunedin to-day, where he intends to permanently reside. Nothing definite lias been settled .ibout the new Ministry. Negotiations are still being c<u ried on. Major Atkinson is in communication with Mr Ormond, who is at present in Ndpier, and is awaiting a reply to a telegiam sent An "at home "took place at Government House to-night at which a large muster of members of the Legislative attended. The weather continues boisterous.
