CAMBRIDGE MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION.
Wk are glad to notice that another and evidently more determined effott is being made to resuscitate the above association. j Having existed in a sort of way for a couple of sessions an attempt was made to open the third session, but this was a failure in so far that the secretary was unable to get together a bare quorum of the members to whom to render an account of his stewaidship and hand over his trust. A few of the remaining members became convinced that to continue the association would be impossible, the members having seemingly lost all interest in what they had hitherto enthusiastically supported. It was then proposed after the lapse of a few weeks that the surplus funds, £6 odd, should be handed over to the local public library, but this step was deferred in the hope that something further might be clone in the way of resuscitation. A few evenings ago a number of gentlemen representing the various denominations held a sort of convention for the purpose of considering a proposal to start a mutual improvement association on a new basis. After considerable discussion it was agreed to request the secretary of the old association to call a meeting of the members for Tuesday evening next at the court-house for the purpose of considering the matter. The members have been called together accordingly and the meeting will take place as stated. All interested are requested to attend, and the public, including ladies, are invited to be present.
