A MAtf named James Brady, evidently an artist in the criminal line, was brought forward by Constable Brennan on four different charges under the Vagrancy Act. These were : With receiving a suit of clothes and some clo.th from Mr Craig, tailor ; receiving meat from Mr Arnold to the value of 2s 4d ; receiving groceries from Mrs McCutcheon to the value of 13s ; and a leather bag from Mr I. Bates, saddler. In each case he represented himself as the servant of Mr J. P. Thomson, and on the strength of this representation received the goods. MrJ. P. Thomson appeared, and gave evidence against the accused. His Worship, after reviewing the case and explaining the law on sucn matters, sentenced the prisoner to three months on each of the three first charges, the fourth one having been withdrawn, owing to the non-appearance of Mr Bates.
