The place was altogether too much out of the way, and the gravel was not ot a suitable character. —On the motion of Mr Smith, it was agreed to abandon the site. Mk ßichardson's Cru-vance —Mr J. R. S. Duplicate Road (Victoria Road.)— Mr Taylor drew attention to the noncompletion of the duplicate road leading from the cemetery into Cambridge. — It was agreed to communicate with the proper authorities on the matter. This was all the business.

An amusing scene (says the London Figaro), occurred at the Opera House in Antwerp. Ihe Huguenots was being performed. As it is generally the case a number of soldiers were employed as supeis in guise of courtiers, priests, monks, etc. The stage manager, a Frenchman from Martinique, who could not for the life of him pronounce the letter " z," had initiated the soldiers as what they had to do. He was to call for them from the wing, when they were to leave the stage at the end of the fourth act. AH went well up to that point. But at the finale of the benediction of the swords the stage-manager's voice was heard, " Sotez." -The soldiers, mostly simply country bumpkins, mistaking the word for '" sautex," stared at the strange command, but did not move. " Sotez done !" cried the manager again. At this one of the fellows timidly raised his foot. The others, seing the action, followed suit in a moment. There was a regular shuffling and jigging about. " Sotez sotez done !" screamed the manager, beside himself with rage. The supers now entirely lost their heads, arid sprang about like mad ; and solemn earnest ban i of holy monks and grave courtiers of a moment were transformed into so many jumping jacks, and the more the manager screamed "sotez" the more violent became their grotesque contortions. At last the curtain fell in the midst of the convulsive laughter of the audience, who surely had, never witnessed the like .before, L „.•■,'.
