The Waikato Times AND THAMES VALLEY GAZETTE.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 1884.
Equal and exact justice to all men, Of whatsoever state or persuasion, religious or political. Here shall the Press the People's right maintain, Unawed by influence and unbribed by gain.
It is now near time that the postal authorities seriously considered the matter of subsidising a mail coach between Cambridge and Rotorua. Private enterprise alone has, since the new road was opened, supplied communication with the interior from this side, and though, little encouragement was oft'ered, Mr W. K. Carter, the enterprising coach proprietor of VVaikato, has continued to run a coach regularly twice a week throughout the entire winter, notwithstanding the heavy state of the road. It is needless for us to refer to the advantages of the Government giving a suitable subsidy for the carrying of the mail along this road, as these are sufficiently well known. Another subject to which we might draw attention is telephonic communication. Now that the srtt'ement of the Patetere country is being rapidly proceeded with a large population is gradually gathering in the vicinity of Oxford and Lichfield, to whom the convenience of a telephone would be a very great advantage.
