CHRIRTCHURCH, Thursday. Mb J. L Costkk and Mr. H. P. MurrayAynsley were re-elected Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the New Zealand Shipping Compauy. At thi* Sydenham Poultry Show there were over 430 entries. Many were of considerable merit. There wai a larg« attendance.
DUN ED IN. Thursday. The Mornington Cible Tramway Com pany have a credit balance of £1245 as the lesiilt of the year's working. The directors recommended a dividend of Is per share. Ranger Burt on Sunday morning caught a settler at Grafting spawning a trout at Haye's Creek in the Waitapu district, and arrested the offender. It is stated that the poached fish have been sent by the ban el to Duiiudiii. Friday. Dr. Cjlquhoun, the newly-appointed Professor of Medicine in the Otago University, stalled a conrsc of lectures in the Hospital to day on home nursing. Sixty-five women attended the lecture.
NAPIER, Friday. An influential deputation waited on tlie Mayor to day, requesting him to stand for the mayoralty. In course of his address Mr Cornford highly eulogised the Mayor for the prompt and efficient manner he had dealt with the small-pox case and referring to the utility of a medical man occupying the position of Mayor when, as in Napier, the borough council is also the Board of Health. Dr. Spencer thanked the deputation and gave a favourable reply.
THAMES, Friday. A Cliinannn has been robbed of £200, cash and deposit receipt?.
INVERCARGILL, Friday. The house ot Mr R. Jones, solicitor, was burnt yesternight. The insurances amount to £1,100.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. A survey party working in the bush near Stratford found the skeleton of a man with a billhook alongside. It i« supposed to be the remains of Edward Hill, who was missed two years ago, and was not heawl of again,
WELLINGTON, Friday. Mr J. L Kinsella, of the New Zealand Herald, has been appointed committeo reporter in the room of Mr George Adams, v ho is promoted to the Hansard staff. Mr Sprang, formerly of the Otago Daily Times, has filled the vacancy on the Hansard staff cauaed by the resignation of Mr Drake. At the inquest on the body of Albert Bellirin, found on the Ngahauranga beach, an open verdict was returned. In the House, to-day, Sir Julius Vogel had to take the oath seated in a chair, on which he still has to wheel himself about.
