THE NORTH NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the directors of the association was held at Hamilton on Tuesday. The Chairman (Mr W. A. Graham) read the advertisement in The Waikato Times calling the meeting, and stated that the principal business of tha meeting was to receive the manager's report on the prespects of business for local stoves, &c. In the report it was shown that considerable farming business is now done in the Waikato, much of which -would probably be lost to the association if it had not stores for the convenience of settlers ; it was not only the goods to b3 bought by settle) s that had to be considered, but also their oats, chaff, and other produce that required a local market, and for which there is a growing local demand. It was also indicated that these stores would be the very life of the institution, as the whole interest of shareholders would centre in them, and from being self-supporting at the outset they would develop into into a good piofitable business. Many shareholders were looking forward to their own stores, feeling that they could thoroughly rely upon any goods they would procure from them. It was agreed to escabli&h a store at Te Awiimutu, to re-open the Hamilton branch (Cox's buildings), ami to tike over trom Messrs Clark and Gano their business premises in Cam budge. Al«o, to meet the wants of the Pukekohe, Wairoi, and the Coast sharehoidets by opening a retail shop in some suitable place in Auckland city. These arrangements, it was felt, will meat the requiiements of the business, and prove convenient and remunerative to tl.eshareholders. Referring to some remarks that have lately appealed in refeience to the arrangements with Claik and Gane, the chaiiman lead an extract fiom a lepoit of tlie committee, whofeome time since were deputed to look out firpe ni>es in Auckland. It stated that Clark and Gane's store on the ra-lvvay whaif was very conveniently situated, the stock modem and well bought, and the terms such as no one but tiiose willing to ivndcr every assistance to the association could possibly have offered. A committee consisting of Messrs Gilletb, Westney, Day and Forrest was appointed to make all the. arrangements ii connection with the opening of the bianch stores, appointment of agents, &c. It was proposed to establish insurance agencies at the several stores; to undertake any auctioneering business that may offer; to execute for shaieholders any commissions at the lowest possible cliaigc; to receive in Auckland fiom shareholders consignments of such produce as finds no maiket in the country districts, so as to fuither in every way the interests of shareholder. It was arranged that the agents at the stores should receive calls and transact s-uch clciical work as may conu within theii s. ope in the district. The association is now delivering coals in Hamilton and Te Awamutu, and will be prepared as soon as the railway is biifh'ciently advanced to extend that branch of their trade lo Cambiidge.
