SERIOUS GUN ACCIDENT AT TE AWAMUTU. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te AWAMUTU, Friday.
A srauous accident happened to a man named Tlios. Faucett yesterday while shooting. He was speaking to Messrs Blanc and Starrat, and stood his gun < n the ground while full cock, the left hand rehtmg on the muzzle. His dog played about him at the time, and in jumping about touched the trigger with its foot, and the gun went off. The charge entered near the ball of the thumb, coming out at the back of the hand," and blowing the whole back of the hand off from the rest of the fingers. When Dr. Blunden heard of it he attended immediately. He administered chloroform, and with Mr SloaneV assistance amputated the had two inches -from the wii&t. Mr Fawcett went to the hospital to-day, and ib pi ogressing favourably. The operation was performed at Do'vin's Hotel.
