Tlie club leeonimended that the County p.»y 3d lioi do/.en for the heads of tstnall buds. — The cleik said he had discovered on looking through the Small Bird* Nuisance Act tint the load boards had power to apply their fund-a to the deduction of hi'nall birds.— After some disciihSion it was agreed to mfoim the club that the county would be willing to pay 2d pi?i do/en for bilds heads, the amount to be debited to the account ( f the riding desiring the deduction of the birds. A ciicular was read from the TJnderiSecietaiy for Public Work", intimating that m "con:r.equenco of the inconvenience ai thing from money under the Roads and Blidges Act not been received as proinply as expected by the local bodies (and which was uufid voidable) impic^t money should bo applied for at least a month before it is wanted. Mr O'Connor also wrote informing the council that in older to obviate delay in progress payments, they are to be made on the certificate of the local engineer,.or other officer in chaige of the works, except m the case of applications for fiist payments under section 18 of the Act. The Clerk reported that f.OlllO doubts having arisen as to the legality of the appointment of the Hautapu poundkeeper, he had written to the Colonial Secretary to have the appointment gazetted. Regarding the culvert at Huntly, the engineer was instructed to consult with the Resident Engineer, Mr Coom, and find out the cost of laying the pipes under the railway line, and to Tcp jrt generally on the roads in the vicinity. Mr James Baily, Fen Goiut, wrote, drawing the council's attention to the state of the Victoria road, which, he represented, i* now most deplorable. A valuablo horse belonging to the company was nearly lost through getting bogged on the load, and the writer feared that loss of life would tesult if something were not done promptly. The letter was referred to the Tamahero Road Board, Capt. Runciman remarking that the boaid would sco that .some necessary repairs were effected. Capt. Runciman said the rain had been unusually heavy, and much damage done to the Victoria road. To give some idea of the quantity of water that had fallen, a bridge had come down the creek, and now lay at Ormerod's bridge, which must have floated over the road. After some other business of a routine character had been disposed of tho council rose.
