The authorities who have the Waipa-Raglan road under their control will have to take immediate steps to open up communication, as a very serious landslip has occurred near the lime kiln at the top of the range. Our informant, Mr Leane, came in yesterday to inform the mail contractor and postal office authorities of the impossibility of wheeled traffic using the road, so that other arrangements could be made for continuing the mail service. It is estimated that it will take two or three men fully a week to clear the obstruction sufficient to allow of the resumption of ordinary traffic. We also learn that numerous culverts are chocked, and the over-flow in consequence is doing much damage to the newly-formed portions of the road. We .should think that the employment of a surfaceman upon this road would be a great saving to the authorities, or the job might be let by contract to keep the road in order at so much per month for a term.
In our advertising columns appear-, the programme in full of Mr Ralph Hood's fhht grand evening conceit, and u ithmit a doubt i-> the most recherche and inteiestingone that has ever been presented to the Hamilton public. In it appear tho mines of Mrs Kilgour, who will sing •'Dicani Faces," and an aiia from Wallace's "Lniline," Miss Stephenson, who contubutes "Let we dream again," and takes pait in the e\er popular duet "The fairy wand," with Mr P. A. Edmiston. This gentleman al*o sings " The gauntlet " and Gatty's favourite ballad, "True till death.'" Mr S. R. Keesing, so favouiably known in the W.iikato and Auckland, will give " Will o' the wisp " and "The blacksmith." Miss Missen (pupil of Mr Ralph Hood) plays a pianoforte solo, and Mr Ralph Hood himself, who is without a doubt the most popular and talented pianist of Auckland, not only on account of his marvellous execution and brilliancy of touch, but for his sympathetic and expressive playing, gives "Erin," by Benedict, Gottschalkb "Last hope," Chopin's "Polonaise," Op. 47, Wehli's "Minnehaha," and a fantasia on "Trovatore." We feel confident that Mr Hood's enterprise in giving these concerts will be thoroughly successful.
