SALE YARDS AT OHAUPO.

Tjje want pf accammodatipn for the large mobs of cattle ana sheep, that; find their way to Ohaupo on sale days has for some time past been very noticeable, and people who have been in the habit of attending ,the sales there, are unanimous in declaring that increased and more superior accommodation is absolutely necessary to the growing requirements of the district. Bent on keeping pace with his extensive business requirements Mr J. S. Buckland is now erecting new cattle sale yards at Ohaupo which for style,' accommodation and convenience could not well be excelled. The site of 'the new yards covers no less than two acres of around, and is situate on the main road and within a few yard of the railHay station. The principle adopted is that existing in Melbourne, which affords nob only every convenience to buyers but likewise every accommodation for cattle, ensuring plenty of room and every facility of ingress and egress. In the old or present yards the cattle are frequently penned up almost to the extent of suffocation ; the system of passing them from the pens tlnough the sale shed is slow and at times severe on the unfortunate beasts ; whereas, under the new idea, no time whatever is lost, the beasts have any amount of room, and buyers are afforded every convenience. There are four rows of pens 200 feet long, some being 18x 18ft and others 9x 18, and the whole are calculated to aecomodate 800 head of cattle at one time. The pens are constrnctpcl throughout of suvn timber, which is much easier on the in -nates than split rails. Two covered-in alleys for the aecomodation of buyeis will extend right along the pens, an alley d r dinj f a *h two rows, the floors being iaiseil .ibont two feet from the ground in older to gi\c all a full view of the cattle in the yaids. By these means the public w ill beabl* 3 to pas>s fiom pen to pen a3 thesal^ piocetMß The contractor is now preceding with this latter poition of the woi k. An excellent floor of gravel has been laid, a very wise provision particulaily for a wet season E\ny other minor convenience which will tend to facilitate tlio business on sale days will be pioxuled, in older th.it faimeis may be able to leturn home with their purchases at an early hour in the evenings. Spacious offices wi'l also be erected, and provision will be made for the horses of those attending the sale. Mr Buckland is deserving of the thanks ot his patrons for the wibo and timely provision he is now making, not only for his own com en ience and benefit but we trust for theits likewise, and we havo no doubt that his laudable enterprise in this respect will be duly appreciated.
