A ROUGH PASSAGE. Narrow Escape of the Steamer Albion. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday.

The steamer Albion from Sydney, about which some anxiety was expressed, arrived here at 3.30 this afternoon. The Albion left Sydney on the 2nd Jane and had fine weather until the 6th, when a^ heavy sea from the north-east was experienced, during which the vessel laboured heavily. On Saturday, the 7th inst., the pumps were sounded and ten inches of water found in the forehold and two feet in the after-hold. It was alto discovered that all the pumps were completely choked and would not work. At 4 o'clock the same afternoon all handa commenced baling with buckets but th« water still gained, and at 7 p. no, all the fires went out and the steamer was hoveto under canvas. On Monday, the 9th, the weather moderated and the, water in the hold was considerably .reduced. During the afternoon of the 9th, the fires were re-lighted and the course resumed with one toiler, arriving as above. On Sunday, the Bth, the boatswain, A. B, Proud, was severely injured by being dragged round the steam winch, and his wounds terminated fatally. -The unfortunate man was buried next day.
