Age of Laying Hens.
I notice in yonr paper variows opinions aa to how long it will pay to kepp fowls, or what ago they will cease to be profitable for egg production. In most cases tho writors say from onr to two years, and no longer than three. Now, from my experience, I beg to differ with t!«e&c writers as regards pure-bred Brown Leghorns, as I have some of that breed five, six, and seven yeara old, and they all have hid continually from pallets to the present time. Ido not see but tho oldest— seven jears old— does just as well aa the two-year-old hen. Since last December, 1882, these old hens have laid nearly every day till aow, even somewhat while moulting. I do not know from experience what other than Brown Leghorns will do, if kept at such ages. I think, however, that nny pure-bred fowl will pay to keep till six yeara old, provided they have tho care and attention they should have to make them profitable, and are in a vigorous and healthy condition. — T. 8. Edwards, in Poultry Yard.
