Brisbane, May 31. Mr Griffith, Premier, in reply to a deputation which waited ou him yesterday, stated that during the next session of Parli.ime.nfc the Government would endeavour to pass a law sufficiently striugent to put a stop to the influx of Froxjph criminals to Queensland.
Melbournk, May 31. The trial, of the eg lity suit Georgo Meicdith Pell, farmer, of Southland, v. Joseph Clark, has commenced here. The land of these and other parties was sold to Sir Julius Vogcl's New Zealand Agricultoial Compauy for £1,080,000. Mr Pell now claims that of that sum £887,000 is still due to him. The Queensland Parliament will meet for the despatch of business on July 8.
(Received 2nd June, 12.15 p.m.) Sydney, Monday. The steamship Albion left for New Zealand on Friday evening last, but returned to port yesterday owing to her machinery having become deranged. The football match on Saturday between New Zealand and New South Wales was a very hollow affair, the local men being over matched at all points. New Za.iland plajed with great brilliancy, their tackling and passing being parfect.
