NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD AND THE MOTION TO BORROW.

TO THE EDITOH. Bir,— In your issae of yesterday's date I notice a report from " A Correspondent" of a " special meeting " of the board. Being desirous that the ratepayers should know the whole truth of this matter, I beg to say that this meeting was by the chairman hurriedly called at two day'fl notice (the act plainly requiring seven clear days' notice), in order to rescind a former resolution of the board, requiring the chairman to make application at once to the Minister for a loan for district roads ; also authorising the engineers to inspect the proposed works, and make plans and estimates for samo, in order that the application should reach the Minister before 30th June, the last day for receiving such applications, The resolution to rescind the above was only carried by the chairman giving his casting vote, thus in effect over-riding the expressed wish of three-fourths of the ratepayers, and allowing a small minority to rule. Whether the ratepayers who petitioned the board to borrow will allow this remains to be proved. I oounsel instant action on their part, as it is abnolutely necessary the application and estimates be posted by June 21st if they wish to be in time. — I-am, &c, W. Skeates. Whatawhata, May 28th.
