LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Departure of the Premier and the hon. Mr Mitchelson. Auckland, Wednesday Night. Major Atkinsox and the hon. Mr Mitchelson left for the South in the Hinemoa this afternoon.

The Rotorua Railway. A deputation of the directors of the Rotorua Railway, consisting of Dr. Campbell (chairman), Capt. Daldy, Messrs Clark, Morrin, Howard, Maclean, Peacock, and Comiskey, waited on the Minister for Public Works to-day. The chairman introduced the subject of endowment of the railway company by the natives with land in view of the rating powers provided by the Railways Construction and Land Act, which the company cannot enforce on land through which the second section of the line passes, it being native land. After hearing the views of various members of the deputation, Mr Mitchelson expressed his warm sympathy with the objects of the company, and promised, on ariival at Wellington, to do all in his power tocarry out the wish of the deputation if lie saw no legal difficulties. On his return to Wellington he would advise the chairman to take immediate steps, so that the company could enter into contracts for completing the line.

Meeting of Creditors. A meeting of the creditors of John Goodfellow, storekeeper, of Cambridge, which Bhould have been held to-day, lapsed, so that another effort to obtain a quorum will be made to-morrow. It seems that the bankrupt went to Cambridge in June, 1878, having no means whatever, and that since then has carried on business : firstly, in partnership with Eyans, and lastly, with his son, who is a minor. Unsecured liabilities amount to £1392, and creditors claiming £325 hold securities valued at £350. The, largest unsecured creditors are : L. D.
