KIHIKIHI NEWS.

new school-room was opened on Tuesday, 13th. Mr,\V. H. Grace, chairman of the cotmnitte gave a short address to the children, after which he declared the school open, lie then gave a holiday to the children. All adjourned to the old school building where refreshments were provided, for which purpose money was collected in the township. In the afternoon games and races were indulged in, and money prizes were awarded to the competitors. The new building is in every way suited to the requirements of the pLice, it is capable of seating 1.30 children, and is divided into two rooms for the higher and lower standards. The rooms are lofty and well ventilated, at the same time due attention has been piiil to wanning the building during the winter months. The play ground, which co\ers an area of H acres is divided in two by a high paling fence, one side is for boys and the other for girls. The only matter for regret is that no ground in the township was available for the school. It is such a fine building that it is a pity it is not in the centre of the town, but no doubt it is better in one respect for being where it is, for the children are sufficiently far removed from undesirable influences. The number on the roll is 105 average attendance over 80.— (Own Correspondent.)
