PUKEKURA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting ot this board was held at the school-room, Pnkerimu, on Wednesday evening last. Present : Messrs ,T. Fisher (chairman), Fleming and Reynolds. Small Bird Nuisance.— A circular was read from the Tamnhere Fanners' Club, referring to the proposed treatment of the above, and asking the opinion of the board upon the subject. — The Chairman, in referring to the matter, said he did not believe they could spend any of the rates in the purchase of poison for small birds. So far as he understood, such expenditure was illegal. Let those people who found small birds a nuisance combine among themselves for their extermination. — Mr Fleming thought it was not pleasant to have poison lyin<i about on one's property when valuable dogs were running about. He knew of instances ot dog poisoning through this cause.— lt was agreed to acknowledge the receipt of the circular. Adverting.— The Chairman stated that during the financi.il year just closed the cost of the board's advertising was about 10 per cent on its income. Officers.— Mr John Fisher was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Hugh Fit7gor.il 1 was, on the motion of Mr Reynolds, re-elcctod secretary, treasurer and collejtor. Nfc\v Road to M\x«ai>iko.— Messrs Fbher, Reynolds, Walker and Parker had gone over the route of the proposed road, and reported favourably on its being made. Mr Walker having offered to do the survey, it wis nqrecd that lie be instructed to proceed with it. Spfci.il Meeting.— The secretaty was instructed to call a special meeting of the boatd for the 1 lth .rune to revise the toll, and afterwards to hold the nevt ordinary meeting. Road at Ohaitpo.— A letter was received from Mr Kusabs, Ohaupo, saying he would not accept the offer of the board (£2 10s) for a road through his propeity to Bnkowsky's.— lt was ngteed to inform Mr Kusabs that the board was not in a position to offer any more, bub if possible would do the proper road duiing the ensuing summer. Road at Pftney. -Mr C.ilcy wrote giving permission to use the toad through his pioperty fiom lob 337 A. to Put ey landing until such time as the gravel shall have been lemoved. Road at ( oganV. Hill.— For forming road here Cowie and Smallmans tender of Is 6d per chain was the only tender received, and was accepted. Strkbts at Camhriikje Wlst.— Giles Keeley wrote asking the board to clear Scott-street about 10 chains, and Mooie street from Shakspere street to Scottstrept about 10 chains. If the boaid would do the clearing he would do the ploughing himself.— It was agreed to leave the matter with Messrs Fisher and Reynolds to deal with. A few accounts were passed for payment and the meeting closed.
