HARAPEPE.
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Pirongia Highway District Board, was held in the school-house on Saturday evening last, the 10th, Mr J. H. Thompson, chairman. Very little interest is felt in road hoard matters now, and there was great difficulty in getting enough ratepayers together to form a meeting. Jt was called for 3 p.m. and by about 5 p.m. there was the legal number present, that is bix, and we proceeded to business, which simply consisted in having a statement read by the clerk of the past year's receipts and expenditure, also the report of the Government auditor on the same, of little if any interest of the general public. The ia to payers present consideung the accounts as perfectly satisfactory, a resolution was pnfc and carried to that effect. The two trustees elected to fill up the place of the two that annually retne arc Mr David Fmlayson, juuior, Mr T. Hodgson, the latter being reelected. vVo ha\c been getting some splendid weather for the potato harvest, and on the whole the crops are turning out very good in this distiict, and have been got in in fine order, but at the pre&ent low value they are not a veiy profitable crop. But it is like all the rest of fanning at the present time, a great deal of work for very little pay. The p.ist thtee nights we have had sharp frosts, but as the ground is so very dry they are not so sevoc. In educational matters we arc looking up, as our school attendance has lisen from fourteen to eighteen, and we are in hopes it will keep on increasing until 1 we are entitled to a full tune school.
