THE TE AWAMUTU CAVALRY.
The Volunteer Cavalry assembled on Monday for their six days' annual training ; 37 were on parade. The strength of the troop is 01, but many of the members are absent, owing to a press of work, threshing and carting potatoes. There is a marked improvement in the band since the return of some of the bandsmen, particulaily the two Norths, one of whom is one of the best cornet players in the province. Mr Siblcy deserves praise for keeping the band so well together under adverse circumstances. For a long time there has been no practice, owing to the absence of some of the members, but the quality of the music this week showed that even without previous practice they can play creditably. The annual inspection by Colonel Lyon takes place to-day at 2.30 p,m. The annual meeting of ratepayers to receive the trustees leport and bal-ance-sheet for the past year will be held in the Volunteer Hall this afternoon.— (Own Conespondeut.)
