At a meeting of the Vigilance Committee to-dny it xv.is lusolved to call a public meeting to discuss certain resolutions drawn up by Mi Pyke, M.H.K., icpresenting to the Government the grave impolicy of dischaiging men fiom the works on the Hindon section at the approach of winter when many men aie unemployed in Dunedin, and geneially directing attention to the delay in piosecuting the xvorUs. A meeting of the shareholders of the Coliee Palace and Prix ate Hotel Company was held to-day in consequence of the stoppage of the company's credit and dishonoring of their cheques. It was resolved that the meeting be adjourned for a month, and that the directors be instructed in the meantime to call for tenders throughout New Zealand and Australia for the company's assets. The Aorangi brought 200 immigrants from -Home, equal to 183 adults ; 157 were for Otago and Southland, and 35 for Canterbury. Only two married couples, two single men, and a number of single females remain open for engagements of those for Dunedin. ■ The xveather has been very sultry all day, with strong north west wind all tho afternoon.
