At the .Supreme Couit enil sitting, to clay, the case of Bow ell v. Samuels, for alleged libel, was commenced. This ■was an action +01 damages l.iid .it £1500 for alleged hbel and skndei by the defendant, who is a solicitoi. The alleged libel is contained jn a telrgiani to defendant, and the slander is said to n.ivc been uttcied befoie a committee of the New Plymouth ll.ubonrJso.ucl. In the first plea, for libel, Judge (allies lecor clod .a non-suit, and in the second, foi slander, v Inch lie left to the juiy. a verdict for defe- clanfc was letnmed, with full costs. Mr Hutchinson of Wangdnui prosecuted, and Mr liesUcth of Auckland defended.
