The writ for the Kaiapoi seat has been issued. It is returnable before the 4th June. The amount of property tax remaining unpaid for the year ending 31st March is only £4000, and lor recovery of this Miiutiionses against defaulters are now b ing prepared for issue. Wednesday. In reply to a petition presented to him, Major Atkinson has decided to deliver an .iddress here. The date has yet to be fixed, but it will probably take place next week, Charles Bright is here delivering lectures on Preethought. The directors of the Wellington and Munawatu Railway Company have for«aided to Sir Julius Vogel a cordial vote of thanks for his valuable and successful services iti placing the shares and debentures of the Company in London.
