NVTIVfi LANDS COURT. Thk com t opened again on Monday at 10 a.m., and adjourned till Tuesday moining, when the Maungatautan case was o])ened. The counter-claimants were called on, when twenty-nine ie-.ponded, many of wliom, however, had joined issue. Hori Winhana — who repiesented Ngatikawhata and an other hapji, and who decided to stand alone and not join with any of the others — opened his ca-^e. When the othci counter-claim-ants were called on to cross-examine him they appeared undecided what to do, as no one wished to lead off. The payment of a pound a day from each vsection of couter - claimants had the effect of inducing a number of them to amalgamate. In the afternoon a fuithcr adjournment till 10 a.m. on Wednesday was gtanted, by which time it is evpectcd all the counter claimants with few exceptions will ha\e amalgamated. It is thought theie will only be about four, viz., the Ngatihiuifi, Ngatikoroki, Ng.xtihorua, and Hmi Winhana, Rewi and his paity being, of course, the first claimants to the block. An effort was made by one of the Ngatiapakuras to get the couit adjourned till Tawhiao's return, a-j Tv Tawhiao had anived in Kihikihi fiom Whatiwhatihoe as a sort of representative of his father, but of course it was a faihne, and as the buoiness has commenced in earnest it will be carried on. — (Own Conespondent.)
