THE CAMBRIDGE JOCKEY CLUB AND THE RAILWA Y AUTHORITIES.
The Railway Department having run bpeuial trains at reduced fares on the occasion of the Te Awamutu races, the Oambiidge Jockey Club, through its secretary, applied to the Depai tment on Tuesday last for a special train from Auckland on the morning of the races, and if not this, it was thought that special fares would be granted to enable people from Auckland to take a two days tup into the country and see the races. Much disappointment was therefoie experienced on receipt of the following reply on Friday last : — " I am instructed to decline special fares for races,— A. Y. M VCDON VLD."
Yesterday Mr E. Hewitt, in reply to a fnither application, received a telegiam fiom the now Distiict Traffic Manager. Mi Hudson, agreeing to send the tram which leaves Auckland at 4.15 p.m. to-d.iy right on to Hamilton. Tiny is the only concession the Department will make.
