It i^ expected that the whole apparatus will be in proper woiking condition by the time she readies Auckland It is rumoured thai the insurance companies are likely to decline insuiing frozen meat sent by sailing vessels, ex except at rates which will be piolnbitoiy. The length of tune over which the n&k on sailing vessels' caigoes extends is so much gi eater than when the meat is for warded by steamer, that the companies do not care to unclei take it. Monday. Kate Boyle, charged at the January sittings of tho Sr.piune Comt with infanticide, and found not guilty on the grounds of insanity, was today released from gaol on an ouler from His Excellency the Governor. The fiist charged was Alice Lynch, with having at Auckland in 18S1 made a false declaration before the Registrar of Marriages as to the age and parentage of one Emma Howell. It appeared that accused's sister, who was then between 12 and 13, was married to one Moncktou, and befoie the Registrar of Maniages accused declared that the girl was her daughter and over the age of 15. Mrs Lynch was committed for trial. Bail was allowed, herself in £300 and two sureties of £100 each. Charles Henry Monckton was also charged with having made a false declaration, and was committed to stand his trial. Bail : Himself in £100 and two sureties of £50 each. Mr Bryce has received from Messrs Chambers and Hall, publishers of Rusden's "History of New Zealand," a letter of apology, stating that all the copiei of the book would ba withdrawn from circulation until the matter corn« plained of is expunged or the libel ease goes in favour of Mr Rusden. It was not^ Mr Bryee's intention to proceed against the publishers, unless his agents (Pains and -Go., London), thought it necessary for their client's interests.
