CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above board was held at the boaid office, Cambridge, on Tuesday evening last. Present : Crs. Johnson (in the chan), Hewitt and Richardson. Drainage at thk L\kk.— The board having applied to the railway authouties for assistance to drain the flat between S. Andrew's Church and the bank of the Lake, the following communication was leceived :—: — "Public Works Office, -Hamilton, 21st March, 1884. It is i\ot intended that the construction of the railway shall interfere in any way with the existing drainage ; and the natme of tho ground at the place referred to renders any special drainage works for the railway unnecessary. There is no objection to the level crossing being placed opposite Hamilton road, as suggested by the boaid. D. M. Bckke, Rc&ideut Engineer." Tho Chairman said his attention had been drawn to the the inferior crossings which the railway authorities proposed to make in the town". He had consulted with the proper authorities cm the matter, and represented that fc.ec<md-class crossings were not at all suitable for such a town as Cambridge. He regretted that on tho matter of the crossings Mr Beere had not given them any satisfactory information. However, he had no doubt their request would be acceded to, as Mr J. B. Whyte, M.H.R., had taken it in hand. Faulty Street.— Mr Peek wrote, calling attention to the unsatisfactory .state of the waterway and footpath in Biyce-street. — The Clerk btafced that the matter had aheady been attended to by the surf.ujeman. Mr Goodfellow's Pigs. — Mr T. Dh-mi wrote drawing attention to the nuisance caused by his neighbour, Mr Goodfollow, keeping pigs at the iear of his store. During heavy winds the stench was simply unbearable. " He hoped the board would take immediate steps in the matter.— The Inspeotor of Nuisanoes reported that the nuisance had been satisfactorily disposed of. Fen Court RoAn.--Mr James Bailey, manager Auckland Agricultural Company, wrote calling attention to the almost impassable state of the above road within the town of Cambridge. The road between the town belt and the Baptist Tabernacle was neither diained, formed nor gravelled. He would ask the board to have this work done so that during the coming winter people residing at tho station might have a. chance of coming to the town. SrBERr Formation Contract.— lt was agreed on the motion of Cr. Richardson to accept Crickett and Fergusons tender for forming Vogel-street, and that they along with Forrest and Brocklesby be requested to give in a tender for forming Hall-street 75 feet wide from Hamilton road to McKerney's corner, and that the Streets Committee be authorised to accept the lowest tender, T*n? Drainage at the Lake.— This matter was brought forward. It was agreed that the matter be handed ovor to the streets committee for that body to draw up a new scheme, and submit the same to the domain board at its next meeting. Depasturing of Cattle.— The Chairman stated that, contrary to instruction, cattle were still allowed to run at large in the t(/wn f The time for depasturing had now expired. The, poopjo were complaining bitterly of ifoe nuisance. — Ij; was ngpped to appoint Mr Collins ranger to ihe board W terms of his tender. Dog Nuisance. -^It was agreed to enforce the registration of all dogs in the town district,

Mr John Knox has received instructions from Mr Mcßirnie to sell at his residence. Hamiltou East, on Monday next, the whole of his furniture and effects, as per list in advertisement. On Saturday next Mr Knox will sell at his Mart, produce, apples, poultry, fjeese, furniture, hoadsm',s, bridles,, and, a, of sundries.
