SPORTING. Auckland Racing Club.— Autumn Meeting.

The above meeting opened this year under exceedingly favourable circumstances, vi/,., 1 " on tgppubhc holiday — Easter Monday— at Which everyone was at liberty to enjoy himself as best he liked. The weather ►was simply delightful, and before the bell rang for the fiist event fully 5000 people were on the course. The lawn was in excellent order and afforded a pleasant promenade for the ladies, whilst the grand stand was crowded. To the office! sof the club especial thanks arc due for the success of the meeting, Messis B. Tonics and T. Morrin taking a very active pait in the proceedings. Owing to the recent death of the Duke of Albany, his Excellency the Governor was not present. The lacing afforded general satisfaction. In some instances the " pot " boiled o\er, but every race from start to finish was run on its merits. Consul secured a victory in the Tradesmen's, Plato and placed the Publicans' Purse to his owner's* credit. Necklace, Mr Marshall's handsome filly, pulled off the Maies Produce Stakes, and the Hurdle Race fell to Minuet. The Easter Handicap was the best event that has ever been contested on the Ellerslie counse, and resultod in a dead heat with the fastest time— 3min. 3o\secs. The third horse was within a length of the pair, whilst the favourites only finished fourth and fifth amidst intense excitement The winner of the .Selling Race turned up in Paramena, after a grand struggle for first honours, and the last race of the day, the Publican's Purse, although it had only four starters, was beautifully contested. Passing the st.nid the iiist time Administrator had run into the front division, and showed a head in front, all being in a cluster. Dining the next turn the changes were like those of a kaleidescope— it was fiist one in fiout, then another, and then another ; but a mile and a-lialf weeded out several, including Fitz-Hercules, Maoii, Libeller, and Yulu Bill. Then came the final struggle, and the question was who would .stay ? Normanby appealed to have a slight advantage on enteung the stiaight, but Radames came up with gieat determination and took command. Administiator in the meantime on the outride had woiked up well, and became d.ingeious. He laced a, neck behind Radames up the stiaighl, and finally caught him on the post, making a dead heat for fii>t place. Normanby was only a length behind foi third.
