Tiik Evening Star publishes the following letter, leceived by the sub-editor from the Rev. A. C. Gillies, Piesbyterian minister :-"Sir,— I sent you a note asskint? you to semi a repot ter to give a local on Mr John Reids funeral. You have treated my request with s'lent co'*tempt, AH right. I now know your moral taste. You can fill your duty papeis with notices of vile piostitutes, jockeys, gamblers, idle cricketers, lazy loons of scullers, but you ha\ o no moral taste lor appioaching such men as John Reid It is well that you have informed me of the fact. Indeed, I had suspected all this before, but I know it now from youiself. Hitheito I have given nearly all our advertising to the Star, but hencefoithlwill transfer our advertising to some other paper." The Mount Id* people have held a public meeting, and canied a resolution to petition the next session of Parliament for the completion of the Otago Central Railway to Taieii Lake. The magisterial inquiry re the Takapuna will take place on the 14th inst. Wednesday. The hon. Mr Dick left for Wellington to day. The ceremony of the profession of Domin c\n nuns took place this afternoon at S. Joseph's Church, Bishop Moran acting as celebrant. The young ladies who made their profession were the Misses Watt, E. Nell, and Gough.
