The Wairarapa-Adelaide enquiry was continued to-day. Witnesses who were on board tho Union steamship confirmed the evidence taken at Dunedm. Mouatt, the engineer, corroborated the statemeet of the lemark made by Mr Mills regarding the race, and said it was merely jocular. Other witnesses denied that the Wairarapa waited for the Adelaide, and blamed the bad steering of the latter vessel. - Mr Mills, the Union Company's agent, testified that he never arranged a race between his vessel and the Adelaide. The statement of Turnbull, the Adelaide's agent, to the contrary was incorrect. The inquiry stands adjourned until to-mor-row, when Messrs Gillies and Kerferd, who were among the passengers, will be examined. Biddle, the station-master at Werribee, through whose negligence the fatal railway accident at Little River is alleged to have been caused, has been committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter.
Melboukne, Wednesday . Arrived : Yesterday, Manapouri from the Bluff. An inquest has been held at Geelong on the body of Kitchen, driver of the cattle train, who was killed by the Little River collision. The evidence taken showed that the "Staff" Regulations have of late bnen constantly in abeyance. The trial of Biddle, the Werribee station-master, for manslaughter in connection with the recent accident, is fixed for July. The proposed official investigation of the circumstauce.s attending the Little River collision has not yet commenced. The following re-airangementof Ministerial offices is announced : — Mr Gillies becomes Minister of Public Instruction, and retains the portfolio of Works ; Mr Berry relinquishes the PostmasterGeneralship, which is taken by Mr Jas. Campbell; Mr Thornby, M.L.C., joins the Ministry without a poitfolio.
Adtlaide, Wednesday. The general elections are now proceeding. Mr Glyde, the Colonial Treasurer, has been re elected.
Sydnky, Wednesday. Martini-Henri has bad apattial knockout in the Cup betting, Empress being now the favourite, at 6to 1. For the St. L°ger, Martini and LeGrand are equal favourites.
