WELLINGTON, Saturday.

The formation of a Trades and Labour Council heie is to be considered at a public meeting next week. The Post, referring to the murder of Warder Adams at Nelson Gaol, says the gaol officials throughout the colony set on toot a subscription list for the benefit of the widow and iainily, and it has resulted in the substantial sum of £292 16s lOd being collected. To-day Mr Micah Read, treasurer, forwaided a draft for £290 to Mr 0. J. Fell, Mayor of Nelson, who acts as trustee for the fatherless family. It is proposed to devote the interest of this sum toward the maintenance and education of the children, the piincipal to be divided equally among them on the youngest coming of age. The Minister for Public Works will leave Wellington on Monday morning by coach for Taranaki. From thence he will proceed to Auckland by one of the proposal routes of the main trunk railways, and will examine for himself the various alternative routes which have been suggested. Mr. Knorpp, inspecting engineer, will accomphny Mr Mitchelson. Monday. A supplementary gazette was issued this evening calling Parhameut together for the despatch of business on the sth. June. At the Supreme Court, Graham Wayse was acquitted on the charge of indecent assault. Patrick Watly pleaded guilty to three indictments for forgery, and was remanded for sentence. Four other charges *yere withdrawn. Session will close to-morrow night. AH the Wellington churches were draped in mourning yesterday as a mark of respect to the memory of the Duke of Albany.
