Two Pictures.

A sinking sun in the ruddy West, A smiling sky, a peaceful sea — The breezes lulling the waves to rest— A picture fair as fair can be. A mermaid singing on rocky reef, Parting her tresses with sea shell comb, Over the wa'ers like dancing leaf A gallant ship comes sailing home. A rising sun in the glowing morn, A revelling storm which flees away, A reef of rocks in the cruel dawn, With crest half hid in flying spray. A mermaid toying with sea-shell comb, A floating mast, a wreck-strewn shore — The gallant ship that came sailing home Has found its haven for evermore. Com. Travellers' Magazine.
