THE TUHUA GOLD DISCOVERY. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, Thursday.
A Meeting of natives commenced at Kanuiti. on Monday, to consider the question of allowing a European prospecting party to proceed into the Tuhua country, on which gold is alleged to have been found. A great korero was held on the subject, fully 800 natives beiiiy present, but information as to the result is rather indefinite, owing to the distance from town and the incomplete com munication with the place. The message" received are very conflicting, some reports being that the Tuhua natives object to let Europeans go through till a con■ultation has been held with Wahanui and the Waikato natives. Another statement, said to be reliable, is to the dffect that Manuku and party have gone on to Ranana, where final arrangements will be made and the pai ty taken right through. It is not expected that there will be any more obstruction. Specimens of gold from three different tributaries of the Wanganui River have been found at Pungapunga, Waitapu, and another place. The matter is causing great excitement in town.
