WELLINGTON, Thursday. A consignment of salmon trout ova arrived by the lonic to-day. The salmon eggs number about 24,000, and are from Sir James Maitland's fish hatchery, near Stirling. When the chamber was opened it was found that a considerable number of the ova was dead, but the remainder was in good condition. Mr Purvis, chief engineer of the lonic, biought out ten robins for the Acclimatisation Society of Wellington. There were 24 shipped from London, but the birds fought so much on the voyage that only ten arrived here alive. Iv the Gazette to-night the island of Java and the islands of the Eastern I Archipelaso are declared as infected places under the Public Health Act. Fiiday. Mr Daniel C. Maunsell, for a long tim^ past Private Secretary to various Preinioifl and Ministers, yesterday filed his sche-J dule, and was to-day arrested for the em-i bezzlement of £267 of Government I money. It is understood it is sin imprest I made to him from time to time to pay I travelling expenses on Ministerial tours, and which he has not properly accounted I for. Mr T. 0.
