CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this body was held at the board's office yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Present : Crs. Johnaon (in the chah), E. Hewitt and Richardson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Ma Goodfkllow's Pigs.— Mr Nixon wrote, informing the board that Mr Goodfellow, hiK neighbour, kept pigs in his backyard, which was a source of unbearable nuisance to those living in the vicinity. —It was agreed to refer the matter to the Inspector of Nuisances, with instructions that he take steps immediately to put an end to the nuisance. The Waikato Timber Mill Site.— The following letter was received from Sir Fiedeiiek Whitaker : — "'Auckland, 21st February, 1884. Dear Sir,— After an examination of all the sites available for the Waikato Timber Company's &aw mill, and a full consideration of all the ad\ antages and disadvantages, the directors yesteiday came to the conclusion that the best site is at Ngaruawahia. The feeling at first was strongly in favourof Cambridge, paiticularly with myself, but the expen&e and loss of time in obtaining and preparing a site thero with sufficient laud, and the delay which must have necesbanly ensued before a title could have been obtained, even if that were practicable at all, opposed such obstacles that we were driven to the conclusion to give up what was otherwise deshed. 1 beg to thank yon for the trouble you were kind enough to take with a view to seciue the company the accommodation it required. — I remain, dear sir, yours truly, Fred. Whi taker." CHArKL-STREBr. — The Engineer, Mr Hosking, submitted a plan for the improvement of Chapel-street. The cost of the pioposed improvements was estimated at £100 13s tid.— On the motion of Mr Hewitt, it was agreed that as boon as a written guarantee was received from the propertyholders in the street, the work bhould be proceeded with. SuitrACEMAN. — W. Baitlett was appointed sinfaceman, at 6s a-day.
