THE PUKEKURA LICENSING COMMIT TEE E LEC TION.
The interest created iv the election \vas> even gieater than that of previous years, owing to the circumstance that since the last election Ohaupo has been included in the district. The residents of Cambridge West and Pukenmu opposed to granting a license for Mr Clements building, known as the Workiugmen's Club, put forth every effort to maintain their position. The other side also worked heartily. The icaidents of Ohaupo, contrary to the expectation of some, voted for leaving things in statu quo, and hence the anti-public house party scored a victory. It is probable that the defeated candidates will seek to upset the election on the ground that the supporters of the temperance men only voted for four candidates, but we think there can be little doubt of the legality of the course pursued.
