WAITOA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the board was held last Saturday. Present : Messrs Chepmejl, Gould, Buck, Parr and Seddon. The engineeis, Messrs Sandes and Napper, were also in attendance. It was reported that the tates on Crown lands had been received, amounting for the two years to £!)!) 8s Bd. The progress of the contracts having been lepoitod on, it was resolved that D. Mmphy's deposit on contracts No. 3 be forfeited, and a man put on to finish the woik, and that the engineers be requested to notify contractors that if their contracts are not completed, or in u satisfactorily fotu aid .state, according to contract time, by the 2!) th of March prov, their deposits will be fui felted, and the work completed by the boaul. Fiom this it may /be infened that the boaid was not .satisheo with the piogiess of the M)ine of the work. Tenders are to be in\ ited soon for seveial jobs to be paid for out of the £400 borrowed under the Koads and Bildges Construction Act, should a poll of the iatepayei.s be favourable. The board, it may be remembered, made a special rate on the 20th May last of one-hfteenth of a penny in the £, to meet the annual payments of the money bonowed under the Roads and Bridges Constiuction Act. The boaid, for form's sake, made the late, but did not intend to collect it, but pay the amount out of 'the general late. The rate was made under powei delegated to it by the county council, but it turned out that the council could not delegate the power to the board, consequently the thing lapsed. The poll of the latepajeis about to be taken soon is a sim>#r matter of fmui to comply witli the act. The late most likely will never be collected, bufc-the amount requiiod paid out of thegeneial late. Accounts amounting to £118 Is were passed for payment. — (Correspondent. )
