THE ORPHEUS GLEE CLUB'S CONCERT.
Ov Tuesday evening, one of the most undonbtedlysuccessful concerts that have been given in Hamilton for a long time past came off in the Public Hall. The Orpheus Glee Club, Mr F. H. Templer conductor, initiate J the entertainment, for the mutual benefit of the choir of S. Peter's Church, and the Hamilton Public Hall funds, and they being ably and cheerfully .issit-ted by a number of friends, the result, as stated before, was a very decided success. Everything .seemed to be auspicious, (■rood weather, good attendance, and punctuality in starting, and very soon the performers weie quite in "sympathetic accord " Vt ith the audience, which was the lai cre^t and most appreciative that has ever been seen in the hall. As regatds the perfoimance itself, all the items weie well selected, and ceitainly well rendered; not a single thing being out of place, or otherwise than pleasingly gone through. Where all played their paits so well it is difficult to particulai i&e, but to the lady who sang " Si til Savias" must certainly bo accorded the \\ reath. The tendering of this contralto gem was as perfect as the most fastidious could desue, and the not to be denied encore was cheei fully responded to and equally well received. <% Dream Faces " was sweetly rendered, and encored, the demand for more, however, only eliciting a bow. The duet, "Army and Navy," was one of the best things on the programme. "If I were a Knight of Olden Time " was evidently thought well of, as, indeed, it deserved to be, and the encore also brought forth a bow. " The Three Chafers " was a " hit " and earned an encore which was cheerfully responded to, the quartette repeating the performance, much to the delight of the junior portion of the audience. " I Seek for Thee in eveiy Flower" having the benefit of a good voice and careful study, was evidently appreciated, and was cert duly not the least amongst the many good things provided. Of the part songs, " Farewell to the Forest " was decidedly the best, and went very nicely and smoothly. The pianoforte duet, '• Sans Souci," by two young ladies, was a surprise to many, and augurs well for the future siiccess of these youthful pianistes at their favourite instrument. Beth touch and time were excellent, and the applause that followed the performance showed how well the audience weie pleased. The second part of the piogiamme consisted of the "'chair business," and it was most assuredly the best "nigger minstrel" performance (amateur) that has been seen in Waikato. " Bones" was certainly in his right place, and Tanibo, or Pompey, pl.iyed up to him with gieat success. It would be hard to get two butter corner men in the district, and their "fuiiniments" were thoroughly appreciated, as evidenced by the continuous laughter and applause that greeted them. The solos— especially " Down by the Deep Sad Sea" and the choi uses were pai ticularly good. The comic duet, composed for the occasion, was oiiginally rendered, and provocativeof much mirth, and when the performers retiied they left behind them a feeling of satisfaction amongst the audience, which .seemed to be \ery equally distributed. The icceipts, amounting to about £19, less expenses, which are small, will be divided between the hall and the church choir. BEEfHOVEN.
