WAIKATO COAL AND SHIPPING COMPANY.

[bv telegraph.— -own correspondent.] Auckland, Wednesday Nijjbt. The half-yearly meeting of the Waikate Coal Company was held to-day, Sir Frederick Whitakcr presiding. From the report it appeared that the profit for the last half-year, together with the balance at credit of profit and loss on the 30th of June, is £2,504. Considering the short time the company has been in operation, and the large preliminary expenditure, this is accepted as satisfactory. The coal mine is now in excellent order, and capable of meeting a large demand. Hitherto the company had only been supplying coal to places on the Waikato, and arrangements were completed for the delivery of coals in the city, and a contract made by which the company will supply at Mercer one half the coals required by the Government for the railway. The company has had a new steel steamer built in London for the West Coast coal' trade. She is a vessel of 300 tons register, light draught, and will carry 200 tons of coal on six feet of water. Her name is the "Thomas Russell." She left London on the 28th December, and was to come through the canal, call at King George's Sound, and is expected at Auckland nexfc mouth. She wiH be employed carrying the company's eaal down the West Coast,
