FIRE AT HAMILTON EAST.

A SM.Wjj fonr-roomed cottage, the pioperty of Mr James Coombes, eontraecor and situated adjoing his residence in Cookstreet, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday night. The flames weie fiist observed at about 10.15 p.m., cind in less than twenty minutes the building was in ashes. Cons°quently nothing was saved. The cottage w,\s unoccupied at the time, but it was used by Mr Coombes' employe's when in town, and contained a quantity of clothing and bedding. How the fire originated is at present a niysteiy. No one had been in the house for days. The building was insuied for £100 in the London and Lancabhirc office.
