Railway Employes Picnic. Auckland, Monday Night. The railway employes picnic, held to-day at the Buck land station, was a great success. Nearly a thousand people went from Auckland and other stations north of Mercer.
The Coming Elections. Mr Mackechnie, the lawyer, is a probable candidate for City North at the next election.
The Hinemoa. The Hinemoa leaves Wellington tonight for Auckland, calling at Kawhia^ route, with timber to build a residence for Major Tuke. The Hinemoa has on board the cable necessary to connect Tiritiri lighthouse with the mainland. Movements of Messrs Bryce and Bolleston. The Star's Wellington correspondent^ telegraphs that Messrs Bryce and Holler : ton leave for Auckland this week, callings at KawHia. The object of their journey is to settle various native . and land matters, among them the lands required by the Eotorua railway. It is believed that- arrangements satisfactory to all parties will be come to ( on this subject. The Premier also intended to pay Aucklaud a visit, but cannot leave for a month. He still stands by bis scheme of national inaurance, and, has had a, bill prepared for next 'session dealing with the subject. L
