The Taupiri Coal Mine. ArcKLAND, Friday Night. At the Taupiri Coal Company's meeting, to clay, the report showed a net profit of £2002, and a dividend of Is 6d per share was declared. The output of the mine was 18,000 tons, being an increase of 3000 tons on the previous half-year. The company ha 3 secured the lease of another 32 acres of ground, which contains a large quantity of coal. Messrs Bars tow and Winstone were elected directors.
Sharemarket. Sales : Caledonian, Us 6d ; Prince Imperial, 245, sellers, 25s ; New Corby, Is 6d, sellers, 2s ; New Find, 14s to 14s 9d, sellers, 15s ; Waiorongomai, buyers, lOd, sellers, Is.
The Markets. Produce market to-day :—Wholesale : Butter, fiesh, 8d ; butter, salt, 6d to 8d ; cheese, good local, s^d to 6d ; Canterbury ditto, 6d to 7d ; eggs, per dozen, Is; bacon and hams, provincial, 6d to 8d j hams, 8d to 9d.
Fire at Mount Eden. The police arrested a vagrant named Henry Woods on suspicion of causing the fire at Mount Fden this moi flung, which destroyed four cottages.
Meeting of the Board of Education. At the Board of Education to-d.iy, a resolution was carried, impressing upon school committees the importance of attending householders' meetings, and declaring the desire of the board to encourage self local government by committees. Smith and Rowes tender of €787 for the Otara school was accepted.
