SENSIBLE ADVICE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — It seems a pity that something is not done with the waste township lands, which are a disgrace to Hamilton, and a constant source of annoyance and trouble to farmers/ and others driving stock through, who, if V once they 10->e sight of their cattle, may be days looking for them. If these lands belonged to private individuals instead of the borough, they would be fenced in and under cultivation ere this. Then why, instead of thus lying waste year after year, could not the borough council let them in small sections at a nominal rental, for a lease — say 7 to 14 year.s, obliging the occupiers to fence within a given time ? I feel sure many would avail themselves of this concession, and besides freeing the streets of wandering stock, would prove more profitable, and make the township more ivoithy of that appellation. At the same time I would suggest that a corner be found for the public pound, which is at present situated in the most ab&mdly awkward and out-of-the-way spot imaginable. If you would kindly give publicity to these suggestions, perhaps the matter would be taken up, and make Hamilton, in this respect at least, ecjual to other and smaller townships. — I am, &c, Pro Bono Publico.
