On a sheer rock, moid l>a-»od, a castle hung, Unfcenanted of all men, as I thought ; And o'er it 3 gleaming gateway, golden wrought, " Castle of Wisdom " writ in every tongue ; And from the world a ceaseless murmur swung From julc-eyed myriads, who, witene'er they sought The cattle, climbing with lamehtmls nn taught, Forever backward in the dust were flung. I, too, clomb up amid the du«t and stir On with those toiling myiiada of men ; And, after life-long toil, worn wearier Than death, I reached the very doois, and then, While '/< i the riotoud lieavcn mad thunder broke, The castle crashed to earth, and I av,oko. — The Academy.
