TE A WAMUTU.

Ix your last ibsue, "Truth" pours a flood of indignation on my devoted head. Ho says I either forgot or purposely omitted to mention Major Jackson's name in my report of the visit of Captain Bridge to this district. I plead guilty. The gallant major ib .so accustomed to hobnobbing with viceroyalty, CM. G-'b, &c, that a .simple captain in the " Queen's Navee " must be very small potatoes to him indeed. Had it been an admiral, or even a commodore, &c, &c. Some people are ever ready to rush into piint; "Truth "is one of then?. I don't think the major will thank him much for hib interference ; the toadyism is too palpable. It may be plea&ant to &ome people in small doses, but such large doses aa " Truth " administers are nau&eous in the extreme. Did I not know the gallant major better I .should feel inclined to ask" Truth" how much he received for writin'j&tb.at effusion, but I know it to be a grato«wl^ piece of toadyism. Major Jack&on's native modesty promptb him to be retiring. Hvy^ dislikes prominence, and will, I am sure, be - none the better pleased with thib meddlesome interference on the part of " Truth." In my last I said a benefit would be given to Mr Sibley on the night of the race day. That was how I was told about the matter , but Mr Sibley requests me to give it a most distinct denial. It was at one time intended to give a performance in aid of the band, and the race night was the date fixed. My informant mixed the two, as Mr Sibley is bandmaster, and the result was I sent a wrong statement for publication. As the band is almost defunct, through so many of the members being absent for the present, there will be no performance in aid of it, but a dance will be held for the sake of amusement. — (Own Correspondent.)

Mr Henry Chitty offers £1 reward for the recovery of his bay gelding pony Harkaway. Mr Henry Carr, blacksmith, Tamahere, requests that all accounts owing (o htm be paid on or befoic the Bth inst. Messrs W. T- Hunter and Co. will sell at the Cambridge Yards on Thursday, January 10th, fat cattle, fat sheep, store, dairy cows, &c, On Saturday, the 12th inst., they will sell at the Cambridge Horse Yards, a large number of useful horses from Napie r and elsewhere, saddlery, harrows, barbed wire, &c, Sec.
