A. Serious disaster has occurred on the uvilway near Toronto. A woikmon's train collided shortly afrer leaving the city with a goods train, and twenty passengers were killed, thirty others being seriously injiued. Londox, January 3.
Baron Macleay, the New Guinea explorer, ha* addressed a letter to Lord Derby, Secretai y of State for the Colonies, urging the British Government, if it should decide to annex New Guinea, to respect the rights of the natives, and expiessing the opinion that attempt will be made to kidnap them for labour trade. Up to the present time the International Exhibition has been visited by 238,500 persons. The juries commence the allocation oi the awards on January 15. Paris, January 2.
The tiial of the Marquis De Ray on the charge of fraudulent deception in connection with the New Ireland expedition, was concluded to-day, when the prisoner was found guilty, and sentenced to four years' imprisonment, and to pay a line ot 3000 francs. The associates of the Marquis were also found guilty, and sentenced to shorter terms of imprisonment, and fined in the same amount.
