BOXING DAY SPORTS. HAMILTON EAST.
These sports came off on Sydney Square .•yesterday, in the presence, of \a large,.concourse of people from all parts of- the di-.-tricfc. The day was warm, but cloudy, and hence well suited for the purpose. The Hamilton Band was on the ground, and played a number of selections during the diy, adding greatly to the enjoyment of those present. The committee worked energetically, but sufficient caie w.i-> not taken to keep the crowd off the grouid, fc'u result being that on\y thnne in th# imvground saw anything of what w.vs going on. On future occasions we hope steps will be taken to remedy this very serious defect. The events were all well contested, the finishes being in most cases exceedingly close. The win of McFarland in the mile race was very popular, as it was supposed j the Auckland man, Cutler, intended to pull it off.
