WELLINGTON, Friday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, D,i\id Maurice Pomory, fourth officer of the Rotomahana, was charged { with assaulting a teaman riahVed "Patrick Comerhml. Tlie accused denied the offence. Evidence given by informant and two others showed that shortly after , C o'clock this morning the men wer,e employed washing 1 down decksj wheflfr in altorc itiou .ensued as to the.lifting^of sheep, the result being th.it the fourth mate struck the prosecutor 'twice in the eye. Accused admitted that he had struck the man once, Comovford having provoked him by striking him in the eye. A. fine of £2 and costs was impused.
