IMPORTANT MINERAL DISCOVERY AT RAGLAN, Coal and Iron.

A very important, we might bay an invaluable discovery has just been made at Raglan. Mr Fergusson, of that place, has forwai ded us a sample of coal and a sample of iron which he has just unearthed. The former, which is in appearance similar to Waikato coal, was found at the head of Raglan Harbour on Todds Creek, about four miles inland. The main seam k Gft. thiciH, and there are five different tributaries leading down to the main. This valuable discovery appears, to extend over a large area of country. Very superior samples have been found in other creeks in the district. The iron ore appears to be of very superior quality, and was found about half-a-mile' inland from the water cariiage, and convenient to the Raglan township. The' importance of these discoveries cannot well be over-i'ated, and their genuineness i» beyond doubt. We expect that means will soon be taken to ascertain the extent of tho deposits ; and no doubt, if the reality is as good as the prospect, capitalists will not bo backward in taking the field in hand and working it advantageously, both to themselves and the. district. The samples may be seen at this office.
